Organic Kombutcha Apple Crisp

SIMPLY TUESDAY REVIEW
Apple crisp flavour Kombutcha Ingredients:

🔹Certified organic raw kombucha (pure water, wild kombucha culture) Pure water is another name for purified water. It’s water that has been mechanically filtered or processed to remove impurities and make it suitable for use which is a good thing so no chlorine, fluoride and other chemicals commonly found in our drinking water. SCOBY – Symbiotic Community of Bacteria and Yeast. Basically, it’s a home for bacteria and yeast. A SCOBY is what turns your sweetened tea into kombucha. The SCOBY feeds on sugar during the fermentation process. The wording WILD culture isn’t explained in any of the website content. I struggled to find exactly what the wild culture was but I found this info- wild yeasts and bacteria are “harvested” from the environment. Yeasts are everywhere in nature, on fruit and on plants. So it appears the bacteria and yeast used to make the SCOBY come from the wild. By using wild yeast, you’re encouraging naturally occurring lactobacillus and pediococcus bacteria to contribute sour flavours. This brand Remedy, has an extra long fermentation period to ensure the sugar has been absorbed by the love cultures.

🔹Organic black tea = Organic black tea leaves. Black tea is a type of tea that is more oxidised than others. Black tea is generally stronger in flavour than less oxidised teas.

🔹Organic green tea = Organic green tea is processed from the leaves of Camellia Sinensis. It has a wide variety of nutrients embedded, of which the important ones are the Catechin Polyphenols (Commonly known as Tannins, which contribute to bitter taste and astringency).

🔹Naturally fermented organic glucose = Most fruits contain sugars (fructose) that ferment when combined with wild or airborne yeasts and bacteria. Yeast either via acid hydrolysis or by producing enzymes turns sugar into glucose and fructose. Glucose is the energy source for our biological cells, and the energy source for our probiotics.

The term “all natural flavouring” is added to the lemonade/raspberry flavour- natural flavors come from foods or other edible things as opposed to artificial flavours which are non-food sources. Natural flavors can be made from animal products. So, unless the manufacturer explicitly states the natural flavors are plant-based or the food product is vegetarian or vegan, there’s really no way to know whether they come from animals or plants.

Extracts- Flavoring extracts are usually made by literally extracting the flavor of the source ingredient from a liquid base, usually alcohol. I would be a little wearing “All Natural Flavour” as discussed before. It is the fragrance of the food industry to make things taste good. Stick to Kombucha that doesn’t have this ingredient.

To sum it all up would I drink this product? YES, I would. I do feel like moderation is the key to all things. I’m not sure I would drink it every day. If you want to reap the benefits of kombucha I’d make it at home, that way you know exactly what’s going into it!
